ระวังสับสนกับ กลุ่มชนเตอร์กิก

ชาวตุรกี หรือเรียกสั้น ๆ ว่า เติร์ก (ตุรกี: Türkler) เป็นกลุ่มชนเตอร์กิกที่มีจำนวนมากที่สุด พวกเขาพูดภาษาตุรกีในหลายสำเนียง และเป็นประชากรที่อาศัยในประเทศตุรกีกับนอร์เทิร์นไซปรัส นอกจากนี้ ยังมีชุมชนเชื้อสายเติร์กที่อาศัยอยู่ทั่วบริเวณที่เคยเป็นของจักรวรรดิออตโตมันด้วย

รัฐธรรมนูญตุรกีมาตราที่ 66 ระบุ "ชาวเติร์ก" เป็น: "ใครก็ตามที่มีพันธะกับรัฐตุรกีผ่านการผูกสัญชาติ" คำอธิบายทางกฎหมายของ "ชาวเติร์ก" ในฐานะพลเมืองตุรกีมีความแตกต่างจากคำอธิบายทางชาติพันธุ์ โดยประชากรชาวตุรกีส่วนใหญ่ (ประมาณร้อยละ 70-75) มีเชื้อสายเติร์ก และประชากรชาวเติร์กจำนวนมากเป็นมุสลิม
