ปาเลสไตน์ (อังกฤษ: Palestine; อาหรับ: فلسطين, ฟิลัสฏีน, ฟะลัสฏีน, ฟิลิสฏีน; กรีก: Παλαιστίνη, Palaistinē; ละติน: Palaestina; ฮีบรู: פלשתינה Palestina) เป็นชื่อสามัญของภูมิภาคทางภูมิศาสตร์ในเอเชียตะวันตกระหว่างทะเลเมดิเตอร์เรเนียนกับแม่น้ำจอร์แดน และ ดินแดนใกล้เคียงต่าง ๆ ^[1]^[2]^[3]^[4]^[5]^[6]

นักเขียนกรีกโบราณเป็นผู้เริ่มใช้ชื่อนี้ ต่อมาใช้เป็นชื่อของมณฑลซีเรียปาเลสตีนาของโรมัน และต่อมาอยู่ในการครอบครองของจักรวรรดิไบแซนไทน์และดินแดนของอิสลามตามลำดับ ภูมิภาคดังกล่าวประกอบด้วยภูมิภาคที่เรียก แผ่นดินอิสราเอล, แผ่นดินศักดิ์สิทธิ์หรือแผ่นดินแห่งพระสัญญาในพระคัมภีร์ไบเบิล และเป็นส่วนใต้ของอาณาบริเวณที่ใหญ่กว่า เช่น คานาอัน ซีเรีย อัชชาม และลิแวนต์

บริเวณนี้เป็นรอยต่อของอียิปต์ ซีเรียและอาราเบีย และเป็นที่กำเนิดของศาสนายูดายและศาสนาคริสต์ เป็นทางแพร่งของศาสนา วัฒนธรรม การพาณิชย์และการเมือง มีการผลัดเปลี่ยนมือกันตลอดประวัติศาสตร์

พรมแดนของภูมิภาคนี้เปลี่ยนแปลงตลอดประวัติศาสตร์ และนิยามในสมัยใหม่ล่าสุดโดยความตกลงพรมแดนฝรั่งเศส-อังกฤษ (1920) และ รายงานทรานส์จอร์แดน วันที่ 16 กันยายน 1922 ระหว่างสมัยใต้อาณัติ (mandate) ปัจจุบัน ภูมิภาคดังกล่าวประกอบด้วยรัฐอิสราเอลและดินแดนปาเลสไตน์^[7]
