มนุษยนิยมสมัยฟื้นฟูศิลปวิทยา

มนุษยนิยมสมัยฟื้นฟูศิลปวิทยา (อังกฤษ: Renaissance humanism) คือขบวนการทางปัญญาของยุโรปซึ่งเป็นตัวจักรสำคัญตัวหนึ่งของสมัยฟื้นฟูศิลปวิทยา ที่เริ่มขึ้นที่ฟลอเรนซ์ในครึ่งหลังของคริสต์ศตวรรษที่ 14 ขบวนการมนุษยนิยมเริ่มขึ้นเมื่อผู้คงแก่เรียนชาวยุโรปเริ่มพบวรรณกรรมภาษาลาตินและกรีกกันขึ้นมาใหม่ ในระยะแรกนักมนุษยนิยมก็เพียงแต่เป็นปัญญาชนหรือครูที่สอนวรรณกรรมภาษาลาติน แต่เมื่อมาถึงกลางคริสต์ศตวรรษที่ 15 มนุษยนิยมก็พัฒนาขึ้นมาเป็นหลักสูตรการศึกษา — “หลักสูตรการศึกษามนุษยนิยม” (studia humanitatis) — ที่ประกอบด้วยการศึกษาไวยากรณ์, วาทศาสตร์, ปรัชญาจริยธรรม, กวีนิพนธ์ และประวัติศาสตร์ จากงานที่เขียนโดยผู้ประพันธ์เป็นภาษาลาตินและกรีก

นักมนุษยนิยมมักจะเป็นปฏิปักษ์ต่อขบวนการปรัชญาที่นิยมกันก่อนหน้านั้นที่เรียกว่าอัสสมาจารย์นิยม (Scholasticism) ซึ่งเป็น “ผู้ร่ำเรียน” (schoolmen) ของมหาวิทยาลัยต่าง ๆ ในอิตาลี, ปารีส, ออกซฟอร์ด และอื่น ๆ การศึกษาของกลุ่มอัสสมาจารย์นิยมพัฒนามาจากความสัมพันธ์กับวิทยาศาสตร์และปรัชญาของกรีกโบราณและอาหรับยุคกลาง ตัวอย่างของผู้นำในกลุ่มนี้ก็ได้แก่ทอมัส อควีนาสผู้ที่พยายามสังเคราะห์ปรัชญาของอริสโตเติลในบริบทของลัทธิคาทอลิก แต่แตกต่างจากหลักของมนุษยนิยมเรอเนสซองซ์ก็ตรงที่นักอัสสมาจารย์นิยมมิได้พึ่งวรรณกรรม หรือ ตำราประวัติศาสตร์จากสมัยกรีกโรมันเท่ากันกับเมื่อมาถึงสมัยมนุษยนิยมเรอเนสซองซ์ การกลับมาพบและกลับมาให้ความสนใจกับวรรณกรรม และ ตำราประวัติศาสตร์, วาทศิลป์ และ เทวปรัชญาที่ยังไม่ได้รับการศึกษาโดยนักปรัชญาอัสสมาจารย์นิยม ทำให้มนุษยนิยมเรอเนสซองซ์เปลี่ยนแนวทางทางวัฒนธรรมและทางปรัชญาของยุโรปอย่างสิ้นเชิง ทางด้านปรัชญานักมนุษยนิยมเรอเนสซองซ์มักจะเน้นบทเขียนของเพลโต ที่บางชิ้นนำกลับมาจากจักรวรรดิไบแซนไทน์ที่เริ่มเสื่อมโทรมลงเป็นครั้งแรก และให้ความสนใจน้อยกว่าในปรัชญาของอริสโตเติลที่ได้รับการศึกษาอย่างลึกซึ้งแล้วโดยนักอัสสมาจารย์นิยมในระหว่างยุคกลางตอนกลางแล้ว
