ธงสีรุ้ง
ธงสีรุ้ง คือธงหลากสีที่ประกอบไปด้วยสี 7 สีเหมือนสีรุ้งกินน้ำ การออกแบบธงจะแตกต่างกันออกไปแต่ว่าส่วนมากแล้วจะใช้สีตามสเปกตรัมมองเห็นได้[1][2] ในครั้งแรกที่ไอแซก นิวตันเห็นรุ้งที่ผ่านออกมาจากปริซึม เขาได้กำกับว่ามี 7 สีคือ แดง, แสด, เหลือง, เขียว, น้ำเงิน, คราม, ม่วง[3] อย่างไรก็ตามเมื่อไม่ได้มองผ่านปรึซึม สีที่เข้าระบุว่าเป็น "สีน้ำเงิน" จริง ๆ แล้วคือ "สีน้ำเงินเขียว" หรือสีไซแอน ส่วนที่ระบุว่าเป็น "สีม่วง" ทุกวันนี้รู้จักกันในชื่อ "ดาร์กบลู"[4][5] ส่วนสีครามคือสีน้ำเงินธรรมดา[6][a]
ปัจจุบันมีธงสีรุ้งหลายผืนที่นำมาใช้ในเชิงสัญลักษณ์ เช่นธงเกย์ไพรด์ที่มีความหมายถึงกลุ่มบุคคลที่มีความหลากหลายทางเพศ (ตั้งแต่ ค.ศ. 1978), ธงสันติภาพสากลที่นิยมมากในอิตาลีและส่วนอื่น ๆ ของโลก (ตั้งแต่ ค.ศ. 1961)
การใช้ธงสีรุ้งในระดับสากลเริ่มขึ้นในต้นศตวรรษที่ 20 องค์การสัมพันธภาพสหกรณ์ระหว่างประเทศได้นำธงสีรุ้งมาใช้ตั้งแต่ ค.ศ. 1925 นองจากนี้ ชาวพื้นเมืองแอนดีสในเปรูและโบลิเวียยังใช้ธงที่คล้ายกันนี้เป็นตัวแทนมรดกของจักรวรรดิอินคา
ช่วงสงครามปฏิวัติอเมริกา นักเขียนนามโทมัส เพนได้เสนอให้ใช้ธงสีรุ้งบนเรือที่เป็นกลางในช่วงสงคราม[7][8][9]
