มรดกทางวัฒนธรรม เป็นมรดกของทรัพย์สินมรดกทั้งที่จับต้องได้และจับต้องไม่ได้ของกลุ่มหรือสังคมที่สืบทอดมาจากรุ่นก่อน ๆ มรดกของคนรุ่นก่อน ๆ ไม่ใช่ทั้งหมดที่จะเป็น "มรดก" การเป็น "มรดก" เป็นผลจากการคัดเลือกของสังคม

ซากปรักหักพังของโรมันกับผู้เผยพระวจนะ (Roman ruins with a prophet) โดยโจวันนี ปันนีนี ในปี ค.ศ. 1751 มรดกทางวัฒนธรรมทางศิลปะของจักรวรรดิโรมันที่ทำหน้าที่เป็นรากฐานสำหรับวัฒนธรรมตะวันตกในเวลาต่อมา โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งผ่านสมัยฟื้นฟูศิลปวิทยาและลัทธิคลาสสิกใหม่
