A military rank infobox may be used to summarize information about a military rank in a particular service branch of a country's armed forces. The infobox should be added using the {{infobox military rank}} template, as shown below:

Note: When using parameters, avoid the ambiguous abbreviation "N/A", and instead use "unknown" or "none". All subjective or qualitative judgements and numerical quantities or statistics must be cited to a reliable source (see WP:MILMOS#CITE).

All fields are optional, except for name.

  • namemandatory – the formal name of the rank.
  • image – an image of the insignia of the rank. The image must be given in the form Example.jpg; in particular, the thumb attribute must not be selected.
  • caption – the text to be placed below the image, typically describing the insignia.
  • image2 – another image relevant to the rank. The image must be given in the form Example.jpg; in particular, the thumb attribute must not be selected.
  • caption2 – the text to be placed below the image.
  • country – the country bestowing the award.
  • service branch – the service branch. Use {{army}}, {{navy}}, {{air force}}, etc.
  • abbreviation – the official abbreviation used by the service branch.
  • rank – where appropriate, the number of stars.
  • NATO rank – for NATO allies only, the NATO rank.
  • Non-NATO rank – for non-NATO allies only, the equivalent rank and allied force.
  • formation – first recorded use or appointment to the rank.
  • abolished – last recorded use or termination of the rank.
  • higher rank – the next highest rank.
  • lower rank – the next lowest rank.
  • equivalents – the same rank in the same country in the equivalent service branches. e.g. where rank is from the army, the air force and navy ranks are shown here.
  • history – any notable usages of the rank in military history,
