ในรอยัลรัมเบิล (2016) ทริปเปิลเอช เป็นผู้ชนะแมตช์รอยัลรัมเบิล ด้วยการเหวี่ยงดีน แอมโบรสลงเวทีเป็นคนสุดท้าย คว้าแชมป์ WWE World Heavyweight Championship[3] ทำให้ในรอว์คืนต่อมา (25 มกราคม) สเตฟานี แม็กแมน ได้ประกาศว่าในฟาสต์เลน แอมโบรส, โรแมน เรนส์ และบร็อก เลสเนอร์ จะต้องปล้ำแบบสามเส้า (Triple Threat Match) เพื่อหาผู้ท้าชิงไปชิงแชมป์ WWE World Heavyweight Championship ในศึก เรสเซิลเมเนีย ครั้งที่ 32[4]
ในรอยัลรัมเบิล คาลิสโตสามารถเอาชนะอัลเบร์โต เดล รีโอคว้าแชมป์ WWE United States Championship ได้สำเร็จทำให้ในรอว์ (1 กุมภาพันธ์) ได้มีการประกาศว่าในศึกฟาสต์เลนคาลิสโตจะต้องป้องกันแชมป์กับเดล รีโอ[5] ก่อนจะมีการประกาศให้เป็นแมตช์ก่อนรายการ (Kickoff) ในเวลาต่อมาโดยเพิ่มกติกาเป็นชนะ 2 ใน 3 ยก[6]
ในรอว์ (15 กุมภาพันธ์) ได้ประกาศว่าในฟาสต์เลน เอดจ์และคริสเตียนจะเป็นพิธีกรช่วง The Cutting Edge Peep Show โดยมีแขกรับเชิญคือเดอะนิวเดย์[7]
