แรกก่อตั้ง วงประกอบด้วยสมาชิก 5 คน คือ ยู-โนว์ ยุนโฮ หัวหน้าวง, แมกซ์ ชางมิน, ฮีโร แจจุง, มิกกี ยูชอน และเซีย จุนซู กระทั่งเดือนกรกฎาคม 2009 แจจุง ยูชอน และจุนซู ฟ้องร้องตันสังกัด กิจกรรมต่าง ๆ ของวงจึงหยุดเป็นเวลา 2 ปี 3 เดือน ภายหลัง สมาชิกทั้งสามลาออกไปตั้งวงใหม่ชื่อ ''[[เจวายเจ]]'' (JYJ) สังกัดซีเจสเอนเตอร์เทนเมนต์ (C-JeS Entertainment) ทงบังชินกีจึงกลายเป็นกลุ่มนักร้องคู่โดยเหลือสมาชิกคือ ยุนโฮ และ ชางมิน โดยวางจำหน่ายอัลบั้มภาษาเกาหลีที่ห้าในชื่อ ''Keep Your Head Down'' เมื่อมกราคม ค.ศ. 2011
