นกเค้าแมวหูสั้น (อังกฤษ: Short-eared owl) เป็นนกเค้าแมวชนิดหนึ่งในสกุล Asio กระจายพันธุ์เกือบทั่วโลกยกเว้นทวีปแอนตาร์กติกาและประเทศออสเตรเลีย มักพบในพื้นที่เปิดโล่งในชนบทและทุ่งหญ้า ชื่อ flammeus มาจากภาษาละตินที่แปลว่า "เปลวไฟ หรือสีของไฟ"[3]
ลักษณะ แก้
นกเค้าแมวหูสั้นเป็นนกเค้าแมวขนาดกลาง ยาว 34–43 ซm (13–17 in) และหนัก 206–475 g (7.3–16.8 oz)[4] ปีกกว้าง 85–110 ซm (33–43 in)[5] วงหน้าสีน้ำตาลค่อนข้างกลม เว้าบริเวณหัวคิ้ว กระจุกขนคล้ายหูสั้นๆ บางครั้งสังเกตยาก ตาเหลือง ขนรอบตาดำ คิ้วขาว ขนลำตัวน้ำตาลออกแดงมีลายดำกระจาย ขณะบินคล้ายนกแสกแต่ปีกยาว สีน้ำตาลคล้ำกว่ามีลายแถบดำ ใต้ปีกขาวมีแถบดำชัดเจน ตัวเมียใหญ่กว่าตัวผู้เล็กน้อย
