เกิดดอกได้มากและสวยงามแสดงว่าผู้นั้นจะมีโชคลาภ ดังนั้นคนไทยโบราณถือว่าเป็นไม้เสี่ยงทายยังเชื่ออีกว่ายังสามารถป้องกันศัตรูจากภายนอกได้อีกด้วย เพราะต้นกระบองเพชรมีหนามและความคงทนแข็งแรง ดังนั้นคนไทยโบราณจึงนิยมปลูกตามแนวรั้วบ้าน เพื่อให้เป็นที่กลัวเกรงของศัตรูภายนอกตำแหน่งที่ปลูกและผู้ปลูก เพื่อเป็นสิริมงคลแก่บ้านและผู้อาศัย ควรปลูกต้นกระบองเพชรไว้ทาง[[ทิศตะวันตก]] ผู้ปลูกควรปลูกใน[[วันเสาร์]] เพราะโบราณเชื่อว่าการปลูกไม้เพื่อเอาคุณทั่วไปให้ปลูกในวันเสาร์{{อ้างอิง}}
