ปลาเรนโบว์เทราต์ ได้ถูกนำเข้ามาใน[[ประเทศไทย]]ด้วยการเป็นไข่ปลาจากสหรัฐอเมริกา ที่สถานีเพาะเลี้ยง ใน[[โครงการหลวง]] ที่[[ดอยอินทนนท์]] เมื่อปี [[พ.ศ. 2541]] จนประสบความสำเร็จ มีลูกปลาที่รอดจากการฟักถึงร้อยละ 90 สามารถผลิตปลาได้ปริมาณสูงถึง 18-20 [[ตัน]]ต่อปี แต่ก็มีประชากรบางส่วนที่หลุดรอดไปสู่แหล่งน้ำธรรมชาติ มีรายงานการพบลูกปลาขนาดเล็กมีความยาวประมาณ 2-3 เซนติเมตร หลุดรอดออกมาจากสถานีเพาะเลี้ยง และพบปลาขนาดใหญ่ราว 1 ฟุตอยู่ในลำธารใกล้ ๆ สถานีเพาะเลี้ยง และมีการจับปลาขนาดใหญ่ได้ในช่วงท้ายน้ำของผู้คนพื้นถิ่น จากการให้สัมภาษณ์ของคนพื้นถิ่นพบว่า ตั้งแต่มีปลาเรนโบว์เทราต์เข้ามา ลูกปลาชนิดต่าง ๆ ก็ได้หายไปเป็นจำนวนมาก จึงหวั่นเกรงกันว่าจะเป็นปัญหาสิ่งแวดล้อมต่อไป<ref name="ปลา">''ปลาเทราต์สายรุ้ง การรุกรานของชนิดพันธุ์ต่างถิ่น'' หน้า 28-32 โดย siamensis.org.
