Vanich Potavanich Former principal trumpet of Bangkok Symphony Orchestra for 18 years (1986 – 2004) and also National Symphony since1992. He was born in 27 June1970. He graduated (BM, MM) from the Department of Music, Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University, He began his trumpet lesson at Wat Suthiwararam School with Surapol Tanyawibool. Later, he continued his lessons with Wisit Jitrangsan, Weerasak Aksornthung, Prof. Henry Nowak, Prof. Edward Carroll, Prof. John Floor.
While he was studying at the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, he had performed as soloist with the C.U. Symphony Orchestra, participated in the ASEAN Youth Orchestra in Indonesia and took lessons of Samadhi and Joga for musician with Prof. Choochart Phitaksakorn, He was awarded a scholarship to study trumpet at the Rotterdam Conservatory, in the Netherlands. He had perform solo regularly with major orchestra include BSO, NSO, The Orchestra of Ampleforth College (U.K.). Beside Vanich had also taken masterclasses with renowned trumpet players such as Paul Archibald, Prof. Stephen Burn, David B.Hooten, Wynton Marsalis, Prof.William Pfund, Laurie Gargan, Edmund Cord. He had performs The Classical concert, Ballet, Opera, Musical. He has performs with the Pop and Jazz stars, And has been invited as a private teacher of Trumpet and Ensemble for Thai Youth orchestra and many major colleges and universities. He was arranger and Composer many pieces for Concert Band, Marching Band and Orchestra. Also he compose the music for advertising movies on TV including the sound track for Thai and India’ movies. His works performed by Ensemble, Orchestra and Concert Band in Thailand and International include arrange the composition by H.M.King for The Canadian Brass on their Thailand tour.
In 1999 he was be guest trumpet player with MPO (Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra) under baton of Maestro Viktor Liberman and James Judd. In 2000 with Kyushu Symphony Orchestra (Japan) and 2001-03 with Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra under baton of Maestro Edo de Waart, Howard Shelley, Carlo Rizzi, Samuel Wong. He had joy with HKPO on Busan, Kwangju, Seoul, Macau, London, Belfast, Dublin and Paris tours in 2003. In 2005- present he was be guest trumpet player with Singapore Symphony Orchestra. In 2006 – present with Nusantara Symphony Orchestra (Indonesia).
Vanich started his conducting and composition lessons with Prof.Narongrit Dhamabutra and more seriously in private conducting lessons with Maestro John Georgiadis, Hikotaro Yazaki. He also taken lessons with Alexander Myrat, Nicholas Braithwaite, Takuo Yuasa, Rear Admiral Veeraphan Vawklang. He would occasionally conduct the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra (BSO), National Symphony Orchestra (NSO), BSO Ensemble, F.A. Brass Ensemble, Bangkok Symphonic Brass, K.U. Winds Symphony. Suthiwararam Symphonic Band, The Symphonic band of Bahn Somdej University, Brazza Brass Ensemble (Silapakorn), Burapha University Band, Ensemble TIMF (Korea). He was selected to be BSO’s Conductor in the “Concert in the Park” since 1995. And selected to be NSO’s Conductor in the “Music No.5” TV shows, Asian Composer League conference 2005. Vanich conducted Ensemble TIMF “Thailand Composition Festival 2006” and participate VIII Cadaques Orchestra International Conducting Competition 2006 in Spain. He works with many top classes Thai pop singers as a conductor and arranger. Vanich was recording BSO, CSO (Sound Track) and with NSO (Portrait of Siam Vol., 1) as conductor.
At present He is the Music director and Conductor of the Chaophraya Symphony Orchestra (CSO) and the National Symphony Orchestra. He was arranger and composer for many pieces for Concert Band, Marching Band and Orchestra. Also he compose the music for advertising movies on TV including the sound track for Thai and India’ movies.
