หง จินเป่า เกิดเมื่อวันที่ [[ 7 มกราคม]] [[ค.ศ. 1952]] ที่เมือง[[หนิงโบ]] [[มณฑลเจ้อเจียง]] ในครอบครัวที่มีกิจการผลิต[[ภาพยนตร์]]อยู่แล้ว จึงทำให้หง จินเป่า อยากจะเป็นนักแสดงตั้งแต่อายุ 8 ขวบ หง จินเป่าขอให้ทางครอบครัวส่งไปเรียนการแสดงที่สถาบัน ''China Drama Academy'' ซึ่งสอน[[ศิลปะการต่อสู้]]ด้วยในกรุง[[ปักกิ่ง]] ตอนแรกอาจารย์ไม่แน่ใจความสามารถของเขานัก เนื่องจากเห็นร่างที่อ้วนและความช่างกิน แต่ในไม่ช้าอาจารย์ก็เปลี่ยนใจหันมายอมรับในความสามารถ ภายหลังหง จินเป่าและคนอื่น ๆ ในสถาบันล้วนแต่กลายมาเป็นนักแสดงที่มีชื่อเสียงทั้งสิ้น เช่น เฉินหลง และ หยวนเปียว
