พระเจ้าเฮนรีที่ 8ได้อภิเษกสมรสกับแอนน์ โบลีนที่กรุง[[ลอนดอน]]ในวันที่ [[25 มกราคม]] [[พ.ศ. 2076]]อาร์คบิชอปแห่งแคนเตอเบอรี่ โธมัส เครนเมอร์ได้ประกาศว่า การอภิเษกสมรสของพระเจ้าเฮนรีที่ 8 กับพระนางแคทเทอรีน แห่งอรากอนถือเป็นโมฆะ พระเจ้าเฮนรีมิทรงประทานตำแหน่งใดแก่พระนางแคทเทอรีนเลย ในพ.ศ. 2078 พระนางได้ถูกส่งไปที่[[พระราชวังคิมบอลตัน]]โดยให้ห้องเล็กๆห้องหนึ่ง พระนางมิได้พบกับเจ้าหญิงแมรีอีกเลย
