โทสะเกิดจากมานะคือความถือตัวถือตน ความรู้สึกว่าตัวเด่นกว่าเขา ตัวด้อยกว่าเขา หรือตัวเสมอกับเขา เมื่อถูกกระทบเข้าก็เกิดความไม่พอใจ เกิดโทสะขึ้น เมื่อเกิดขึ้นแล้วหากระงับไม่ได้ก็จะนำให้ทำ[[ความชั่ว]]ความไม่ดีต่างๆ เช่น ทะเลาะวิวาทกัน กลั่นแกล้งกัน ทำร้ายกัน ฆ่ากัน เป็นเหตุให้ตัวเองเดือดร้อน โลกก็เร่าร้อน ขาดสันติภาพ อยู่กันอย่างเดือดร้อน หวาดระแวงกันและกัน
